The name John Wagner is synonymous with British comics. Already established as a writer and sub-editor for various UK titles, it was the launch of seminal British anthology comic 2000AD in 1976 that cemented John’s reputation.
Alongside artist Carlos Ezquerra, he created the iconic JUDGE DREDD for 2000AD and shortly after, he created STRONTIUM DOG for STARLORD, 2000AD’s sister publication. Like so many of his British contemporaries, he was part of the British Invasion of American comics in the 1980s, writing Batman for DETECTIVE COMICS with longtime collaborator Alan Grant.
In the 90s, John went on to write for Dark Horse Comics on both their STAR WARS and ALIENS properties. And in 1997 his graphic novel A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE was published to huge critical acclaim, eventually adapted into a film by David Cronenberg.
